Our friends Ratatat and Hot Sugar are on tour y'all! This spectacular light show was captured by our own @sarah_nichole27 during their set at @acllive last week.
Just a few more dates left in North America before Ratatat heads to Europe and Australia later this fall. #Ratatat #SXSW
You never know who you’ll discover at #SXSW Music! Take @jimjbeat’s story from the 1997 fest for example:
A publicist suggested I check out a new band whose album hadn’t been released yet, and so I saw Harvey Danger months before “Flagpole Sitta” became a hit.
But the real payoff came when I hung around for the next act, a scruffy 16-year old with a beat-up acoustic guitar named Conor Oberst.

We were lucky to have our longtime pal, Austin legend, psychedelic pioneer & perennial favorite Roky Erickson, perform at #SXSW 1993.

Two words: “Wes…Craven.”
Read how @TedGeoghegan, Director of “We Are Still Here,” met one of his idols, Wes Craven, at #SXSW a few years ago:
I attended SXSW ‘13 as a publicist, lending a hand with CHEAP THRILLS, produced by my dear friend Travis Stevens. At the time, I admit that I never would have guessed he and I would attend the festival again two years later with my directorial debut, WE ARE STILL HERE.
But back in 2013, while wandering the streets between press days, I caught a glimpse of my friend Ivy excitedly waving me over to the entrance of the Paramount Theater. As I approached her, she casually pointed at a tall, handsome gentleman standing alone by the entrance and, wide-eyed, mouthed the words “Wes… Craven.” Although typically one to avoid celebrity interactions, I couldn’t help but immediately approach the director, hand eagerly extended, and tell him how much his work had meant to me as a lonely young horror fan growing up in the 80s.
He was kind, welcoming, and genuinely warm to me: a complete stranger who, in retrospect, was probably somewhat beside himself, blabbering with excitement. I’ve happily hung onto that star-struck SXSW moment for years and, with the recent passing of Mr. Craven, will hold it even closer for all the years to come.

Today we have a story from our friend and photographer Per Ole Hagen:
It was 2010, and I had seen the legendary rock photographer Bob Gruen talk about his life as a friend of John and Yoko, and also showing his iconic photos of John with the “I Love NY” t-shirt. The same night I queued up in the photo pit at La Zona Rosa to shoot Ray Davies.
The pit was literally packed, but I had got a prime position, right in front of the stool I knew he would sit on. We could not move or change position, but I thought I recognized the guy beside me, not tall, and with curly hair. That was Bob Gruen, shoulder to shoulder with me!
The concert started, and we all clicked away. Ray Davis got his well-deserved applause and started on his next song. During the intro he looked out on the audience and suddenly he recognized my neighbour in the pit. They obviously knew each other from before. He made a face at Gruen and continued to sing his song. The concert was one of my best at SXSW so far.
I never got a picture of Bob Gruen, not wanting to ask him, but I got a picture of Ray Davies making a face at Bob Gruen. How meta is that?
